Consider

A powerful stumbling block to forgiving is our belief that someone has robbed us of precious time. We may have spent years in an abusive or unhappy relationship feeling angry, afraid, and helpless. We may have survived childhood wounding only to sacrifice adult years to low self-esteem, underachievement, addictions, or poor relationship choices. We may be convinced that until our lost time is restored to us, we can’t consider forgiving the person who cheated us.

Look For the Good

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.…And the God of peace will be with you.

Consider

There is little in this world that is wholly bad or wholly worthless. This is especially true of people. Sometimes people annoy us, betray us, or seriously injure us. Some may rob us of something valuable and show no remorse. Others may treat us with indifference.

God has given us an amazing promise. Not only will we receive eternal life but we will be changed into the likeness of the Son and will share in his glory.

Words Like Honey

Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

Consider

In giving us the gift of human speech, God also gives us a serious responsibility. Words spoken to one another have an almost magical power to heal or to hurt. Gracious, kindly words cost us little, yet so often we withhold them out of stubbornness or pique. Even our silence can sting when someone needs the balm of our forgiveness.

Facing Lions

Scripture

Daniel 6:16 (English Standard Version)

Then the king commanded, and Daniel was brought and cast into the den of lions. The king declared to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you!”

Consider

When we find ourselves in a den of lions—trapped in a conflict with those who hurt and betray us or even want to take us down—then it’s good to remember that we belong to God.

If we believe that God is sovereign, then we also believe that he either ordains or permits every situation that comes into our lives. This includes the painful, the ugly, the frustrating, the heartbreaking.
