Righteousness in Action

Scripture

Matthew 5:20 ESV

“For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Consider

Righteousness is relational. It is purity of intent that springs from a heart surrendered to God, and it manifests its presence in our words, attitudes, and behaviors. Although God confers righteousness through the work of the Spirit, we must consent to being transformed and committing ourselves to a new way of interacting with the world. Moreover, learning to live righteously is a process that takes time and discipline.

Seek God Today

Scripture

Matthew 6:31-34 NIV

So do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Consider

We live in uncertain times, yet how many people in previous generations have uttered those exact same words?

Living God’s Essence

1 Corinthians 13:4-8a NIV

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Consider

This excerpt from the “Love Chapter” in 1 Corinthians may be familiar to us from many sources, from personal readings and from the pulpit, recited at weddings or printed in Dayspring Valentine cards.

P.R.A.Y. for America

Consider this prayer for our nation

P – Praise

Creator God, we adore you and glorify your holy name. We acknowledge that we are helpless to do right without your guidance and goodness. All that we have and all that we are flow from your loving and generous hand.

R – Repent

We confess that as a nation we have lost our way. You gave us good foundations in your Word, but we have strayed from your truth, rejected your sovereignty over our lives, and replaced you with idols and promises that cannot satisfy our desperate souls.
